For about 70 years, water fomr the lower portion of the Colorado River has been diverted through aqueducts to supply farms in the Imerial Valley of California. The Colorado Rive already furnishes 75% of the public water needs of Los Angeles and San Diego. Recently, the Central Arizona Project began diverting water from the Colorado River to suppply Phoenix, Tucson, and the heavily agricultural area developing between them. You are charged with determining the need and access to the supply such that everyone involved has a far share of the resources. Devise a list of questions or issues that need to be raised to settle this issue. Who has the rights of the flow, California or Arizona? Does Colorado have any say in the decision? Apply the knowledge that you have gained in Chapter 14, and the NPR podcast (below) to evalulate these questions. Consider the growing trend of the legalization of Marijuana in the US. It is considered to be the fastest growing industry in the country. Scenario: a bill has been introduced to the Tennessee General Assembly to legalize the use and sell of Marijuana. Taking into consideration the pros and cons presented in the Forum panel discussion (see video link below) and the knowledge gained from Chapter 18 in your textbook, write a letter to your State Senator, either supporting or protesting the bill. Include the reasons for your position and your opinion on what should be done with any new revenue generated if the bill is passed.
